Skeptical Monkey Redesigned

As you may be able to tell, Skeptical Monkey has a new look. We tried to get away from unnecessary ads and widgets in this version and focus on the content. If you haven’t seen the new homepage, it’s much busier than a straight-forward blog. We also have more options for viewing articles and comments over in the right column.

Why did we redesign?

  1. I built the first version when I was learning Wordpress, PHP, and JavaScript (I’m a web designer during the day). I’ve gotten a lot better since.
  2. A load of prebuilt themes have popped up, so we didn’t have to create the theme from scratch again.
  3. The code is a bit less clunky.
  4. There are a few tricky things going on under the hood to speed the site up and make it SEO-friendly
  5. This theme makes better use of Javascript, namely jQuery and Cufon.

What can you expect from now on?

Three words: more frequent updates. We admit we’ve neglected this site for over a year. We moved 3,000 miles, bought our first house, and got married… all within the span of about 12 months. But we have our feet back on the ground and remember why we started this site in the first place: It’s fun!

So we hope you like the new look and we hope to see you again! Frequently! Subscribing to our feed will automatically let you know when we’ve updated the site.

If you have any comments, suggestions (we really like these!), or notice something is broken… please leave us a comment below.
